My mentor from afar, Kurt Lewin, is a German-born psychologist who earned the title “father of social psychology”. Lewin had an insatiable curiosity. His focus was the study of group dynamics, interdependence, experiential learning and activity research. People came to him with diverse problems because of his ability to look at any problem with a new set of eyes, from several perspectives, and come up with practical, innovative solutions.
Like Lewin, people come to me to solve things, to start things, to run things. Examples include:
- Knowledge Navigators International - design an innovative eLearning and collaboration product
- RTI International – develop “knowledge hubs” to link multinationals and emerging market states
- CBCL Engineering – create the architecture for a virtual marine technology park
- Center for Creative Leadership - integrate new learning technologies into their leadership training programs
I develop learning strategies, conduct learning needs analyses and design continuous learning environments. My most recent international work focuses on program evaluation in Macedonia, Bosnia, Timor-Leste, Bahrain and Indonesia.
My clients include provincial and the federal government in Canada, large inter-governmental organizations (the United Nations Development Programme), bi-laterals (the Canadian International Development Agency), governments (Republic of Macedonia, Kingdom of Bahrain), systems of higher education (the University of North Carolina) and corporations (Citicorp, Health Care Partners).
When I ask these clients why they hire me and my world-wide network of associates, an image emerges: “entering into conversations that move everyone forward”...“creating a new way of seeing problems and opportunities”...“thinking 'outside of the box' while making practical recommendations”...“managing an incredible amount of detail”.
